1. Summary
Reef Label is operated by Reef Label LLC, 153 E Kamehameha Ave, Kahului, Hawaii 96732 (“we,” “us”). It is a static reference site. We don’t have accounts, comments, sign-up forms or a store, and we don’t sell personal information.
- We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages help. It sets cookies in your browser.
- Our host, Cloudflare, and Google Fonts receive your IP address and browser details when a page loads.
- The ingredient checker runs in your browser. What you paste into it never reaches us.
- If you email or write to us, we keep what you send so we can respond.
2. What we collect
| Information | From | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Pages you view, page addresses (including filters and searches in the product finder), referring site, device, browser, operating system, language, approximate location, and a random cookie ID | Your browser, through Google Analytics | Understanding what people read and how they find us |
| IP address, request details and security signals | Your browser, received by Cloudflare (our host and network provider) | Delivering the Site, security and abuse prevention |
| IP address and browser details | Your browser, received by Google Fonts and by brand websites that host some product images | Delivering fonts and images. We don’t receive this data |
| Your name, contact details and message | You, if you email or write to us | Responding, correcting the Site, legal notices |
What we don’t collect. We don’t ask for or collect your name, account details, payment information, health information or precise location through the Site. We don’t run advertising, retargeting or social-media trackers. Text you enter in the ingredient checker, and what you copy with a copy button, stays in your browser.
Reports we see. We see Google Analytics’ aggregated reports, not a list of individual visitors. We don’t try to identify visitors, combine analytics data with other data about you, or use it to advertise or build audiences.
3. Cookies
The only cookies the Site sets are Google Analytics’ first-party cookies. We set no advertising cookies.
| Cookie | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Tells one browser from another so visits can be counted | Up to 2 years |
_ga_* | Keeps the state of your current visit | Up to 2 years |
Google explains these cookies in its cookie documentation and how it uses data from sites like ours inHow Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Google Analytics 4 doesn’t log or store individual IP addresses; it uses the address to work out an approximate location and then discards it.
4. How we use it
We use information to deliver and secure the Site, to understand and improve what we publish, to respond to messages, corrections and legal notices, to enforce our Terms, and to comply with law. Where the law of your country requires a legal basis, ours is our legitimate interest in running, securing and improving a free reference site, and, for messages you send us, taking the steps you ask for and meeting our legal obligations.
5. Who receives it
Service providers. Google (Analytics and Fonts) and Cloudflare process data for us as described above, under their own terms. Brand websites. Some product images load from the brand’s own site, so that site sees your IP address and browser details. We tell your browser not to send them the address of the page you’re on, but we don’t control what brands do with what they receive. Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe the law, a court order or a legal process requires it, or to protect our rights, the Site or others.Business transfers. If we merge, are acquired or sell the Site, information may transfer to the successor, which must honor this policy.
We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Links on the Site go to sources and brands that have their own privacy practices.
6. How long we keep it
Google Analytics keeps event-level data for the period set in our account, which never exceeds 14 months; aggregated reports may be kept longer. Cloudflare keeps request logs for the periods it states. We keep messages and legal notices for as long as needed to deal with the matter, and afterward for the time needed to meet legal, accounting and dispute-resolution requirements.
7. Your choices
- Opt out of Google Analytics with Google’sbrowser add-on, or block or clear cookies in your browser. The Site works without them.
- Block Google Fonts and third-party images with a content blocker. Pages fall back to system fonts and an initials logo or no image.
- Browser signals. We don’t treat Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals differently, because we don’t sell or share personal information for advertising. You can still opt out of analytics as above.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the privacy laws of several US states, the EU and UK GDPR and similar laws, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to access, correct or delete it, to receive a copy, to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent where we rely on it, to opt out of sale, sharing and targeted advertising (we do none of these), and not to be treated worse for exercising these rights. If you are in the EU or UK you may also complain to your data protection authority.
To make a request, email [email protected] or write to the address in section 12. We may need to confirm that the request comes from you, and an authorized agent may submit one for you with proof of authority. We don’t hold analytics data in a form that lets us find your visits, so for those we can usually only point you to the opt-out above. If we decline a request you may appeal by replying to our decision, and you may then contact your state attorney general or data protection authority.
9. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security and transfers
The Site is served over HTTPS and we limit the information we collect, but no system is completely secure and we can’t guarantee the security of data sent over the internet. We are in the United States, and Google and Cloudflare process data in the United States and other countries. If you use the Site from elsewhere, your data will be transferred there. Where the law requires a transfer mechanism, we rely on our providers’ certifications and standard contractual clauses.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. The new version takes effect when posted with a new effective date above. If a change materially expands how we use personal information, we will say so on this page before it applies to information already collected.
